Well winter is here and it is the perfect time to jump in the motorhome and explore the best of what the UK had to offer. Many believe that traveling is only for the summer months, but winter is an exhilarating time to travel. Below we share with you the top 5 places to visit in the UK, during the winter months.
Cumbria and the Lake District
Cumbria is one of the most beautiful places to visit during winter. There are wide open spaces of land to enjoy with so many walking trails. It is one of the least occupied counties in the UK. Once you've parked up, you can enjoy a trek along Latrigg Fell and Derwentwater Lake. If you fancy a ferry ride, then Windermere is perfect, as is Bowness. There are also so many cafes and tea room for you to warm up in and grab a hot drink.
Edinburgh looks stunning in winter. The city becomes festooned with Christmas lights and the atmosphere takes on a very homely and welcoming feel. Arthur's Seat should always be climbed, as well as visiting Edinburgh Castle. Princess Street Gardens becomes an ice rink and you can have fun riding in the illuminated Edinburgh Eye. Of coarse, when you stay in your motorhome, you can enjoy a dram of whisky to warm you up.
Bath is a gorgeous city and looks even more beautiful in the wintertime. It has every shop you need, beautiful curved avenues to explore and spas like nowhere else on earth. If you love your literature, then Bath must be on your list of places to visit, as he Jane Austen museum is housed there. You can even park up your motorhome for the afternoon and enjoy a bus guided city tour.
The breathtaking county of Dorset has so many places of interest that you can visit, all within a short distance of each other. Bournemouth, although often referred to as a summer seaside town, is lovely in the winter and has its own Aquarium. The county town of Dorchester is also interesting with its parade of shops, museums and eateries. It is also well worth visiting Lyme Regis, that has a beautiful promenade and gift shops. Abbotsbury illuminated gardens are also a joy to behold when strolling around on a cold winter evening.
Liverpool is perfect for a short stay or simply if you want to hit the shops. With world-renowned museums and architecture, there is so much to see and do in Liverpool. You also have to go for a ride on the iconic Mersey Ferry. The great thing about the motorhome is that you can also shop till your heart's content in Liverpool One.
